Multiple teams were employed across two important sites during construction to ensure that the floor was installed by the deadline. The Flowcrete applicators used the buildings structure to their advantage, as Heating and Screeding teams could work in different wards at the same time, meaning that they could deliver up to 1,000m² of flooring in a single week.
The work at the 140 bed hospital covered 11,500m² in total. Work began at Monkwearmouth Mental Hospital in April 2013 over a 2,500m² area and in May 2013 Flowcrete began working on 9,000m² at Cherry Knowl Hospital. The floor was completed in both parts of the hospital in October 2013.
Both complexes were provided with Isowarm underfloor heating, Isocrete K-Screed and the new floors at both sites also included a damp proof membrane (DPM) and high compressive strength thermal insulation.
The Isowarm system is a fully controllable way of delivering heat on demand where and when it is needed. This innovative heating method is an ideal way of meeting the economic, environmental and efficiency demands of modern construction projects.
Isocrete K-Screed is a great choice for projects with a tight deadline, as it combines rapid installation with high strength and excellent moisture control. It includes the innovative K-additive which creates a strong and level platform for floor finishes.
