Network Rail Takes the Fast Track to Success with New Station Floor

Flowcrete UK supplied Edinburgh’s main railway station with a fast-curing, decorative flooring solution to refurbish a key internal concourse area.

The floor finish on the internal bridge walkway within the Edinburgh Waverley Station had started to deteriorate because the newly installed tiles were not able to cope with the heavy on-site traffic, with point loading from catering trolleys becoming a particular problem for the floor’s surface.

To rectify this issue Network Rail decided to install a seamless resin floor that was both resilient and aesthetically appealing. It chose to use 300m2 of the fast curing solution Flowfast Terrosso to refurbish the walkway, as it would provide an attractive, easy to maintain finish that would withstand the conditions within the UK’s second largest main line railway station over an extended period of time.

Because the station had to remain open for its customers, the refurbishment work had to be undertaken in the evenings. The Flowcrete approved applicators began work at 10pm and the walkway had to be open again by 6am. To account for this the floor was completed in sections over a period of five evenings.

Flowfast Terrosso has been specifically designed for high traffic commercial environments that need a functional floor that is also eye-catching. A significant advantage of this solution is its fast rate of cure, which allows for rapid installations, making it ideal for developments wanting to minimise the downtime caused by the floor’s application.
