Mondéco Crystal is Chosen at £20m Refurbishment

Home to the Westminster Business School (WBS) and the School of Architecture and the Built Environment (SABE), the Marylebone campus of Westminster University has undergone a £20m refurbishment project which took nearly two years to complete.

Flowcrete's seamless terrazzo system, Mondéco Crystal Ice, was chosen by the client, who was looking for joint free flooring. Mondéco Crystal Ice is a seamless epoxy resin floor finish that utilises a blend of mirrored and clear glass chippings to offer a hard-wearing and highly decorative finish.

The majority of the Mondéco system was laid over a base of access flooring with a double layer of cross laid ply, using Flowcrete's EP flexible membrane to eliminate the risk of cracking through movement of the ply. Areas of existing floor tiles and bedding were removed and reinstated using Flowcrete's own epoxy grout blend, ensuring a strong and fast curing base was installed.

One challenging element of the Mondéco installation was a ramp that had a combined stair detail included. At over 18 meters long, it is believed that this is the first of a kind, having never been attempted before.

Mondéco Crystal Ice is an 8mm epoxy resin terrazzo system offering clients working in the commercial sector excellent durability combined with an anti-slip and scratch resistant profile.

With correct maintenance the system can last in excess of 25 years.
