The Wester Hailes Healthy Living Centre, which opened its doors three months early, installed 3,000m² of Isowarm underfloor heating and Isocrete K-Screed.
Like many healthcare facilities the centre consists of a wide variety of different medical services including physiotherapy, dentistry, podiatry and midwifery amongst others. Each of these has different operational demands and means that a range of floor finishes was used throughout the building.
To ensure the screed and underfloor heating worked in every area, all the joints within the floor system were tailored to accommodate the varying demands, specifications and floor coatings of different rooms.
The applicators had to deal with a reduced zone in one area of the floor which slightly altered the depth over the Isowarm system. The floor was completed so well that after the entire 3,000m² application there was only two small hairline cracks coming from the corners of the front matt wall. These were easily rectified with two sawcuts.
The Isowarm system has become a popular choice with healthcare facilities because it provides controllable, targeted heat and saves space by replacing radiators. It also delivers economic, environmental and efficiency savings that help developers meet the demands of modern construction projects.
Isocrete K-Screed is an innovative, award-winning screed that speeds up construction schedules due to its rapid installation time compared to alternatives. It also combines high strength with excellent moisture control.
