The National Trust for Scotland developed the building in partnership with Historic Scotland to deliver a world-class experience in time for the Battle's 700th anniversary. The facility takes visitors through an immersive 3D interpretation of the battle’s characters and events.
It was important to the client that the under floor heating, screed and resin flooring was all produced and designed by one manufacturer and installed by approved licensees. These factors made Flowcrete UK a superb option for the project, especially as it covered each element of the floor under a single point warranty.
The floor’s installation began in April 2013 and was completed over a period of four months. First the Isocrete HD K-Screed was laid across the building’s entire 900m2 floor in order to ensure an early drying, high strength screed layer that could work with the specified underfloor heating system.
410m2 of the state-of-the-art underfloor heating system Isowarm was then installed in the circulation area, café, entrance and shop.
Finally, 300m² of Flowfast Terrosso was installed in the building’s education room, circulation area, café, entrance and shop to provide a seamless, decorative and hard-wearing finish. Given the heavy footfall anticipated for the visitor’s centre it was essential that the client chose a floor finish that had been developed for high traffic commercial environments.
