Case Study: Amazon, Leyland – Van Deck Waterproofing
Installer: 4M
Systems Used: Deckshield Rapide ED1
Location: Leyland, Lancashire
Project Size: Approximately 8,000 sqm
The Project
As part of Amazon’s continued investment in last-mile delivery infrastructure, a new van deck was constructed at its Leyland site to support a fleet of Mercedes Sprinter vans. The elevated deck will be used for van storage and, in the future, will incorporate EV charging infrastructure.
Delivered by main contractor Glencar Construction and designed by SMR Architects, the project required a waterproofing solution that could be applied quickly and reliably, even during the harsh winter months. With the van deck forming part of a live logistics environment, any delay to the programme would have a knock-on effect on operations.
The Solution
Flowcrete provided a fast-track waterproofing system ideally suited for cold-weather application and tight timelines. Working with trusted installer 4M Floors UK, our team supplied and supported the installation of Deckshield Rapide ED1, a rapid-cure PMMA-based system, across the 8,000 sqm deck surface.
The system was chosen for its:
By choosing Flowcrete, Amazon benefited from a solution that allowed critical works to continue uninterrupted despite adverse site conditions.
Results
The project was successfully completed in March 2025, with installation completed over an 8-week period. The robust, long-lasting waterproofing system now protects the van deck from water ingress and is future-ready for integration with EV charging equipment.
This scheme stands out for its use of drone footage, which captured the completed deck from above—highlighting the clean, seamless finish of the Deckshield system and the scale of the installation.
This project demonstrates Flowcrete’s proven ability to deliver under pressure, particularly in projects where timing, temperature, and long-term performance all matter.
