Flowcrete Sets Pace for Refurbished Catering Centre

Flowcrete UK has been involved in the renovation and extension of an existing catering centre at the McDonagh Barracks, sited on the Curragh Camp complex in County Kildare.

The McDonagh Barracks dates back to the nineteenth century; originally built to accommodate soldiers of the Irish Battalion of the Great British Army until 1921, the site has been used by the Irish Army ever since .

In order to improve on-site facilities for resident soldiers, the complete renovation of the existing catering centre - including the re-rendering of all external walls, modifications to the internal layout as well as the removal and replacement of all existing windows, doors, finishes and fittings - was commissioned by the Department of Defence in 2011.

Flowcrete UK's acrylic MMA flooring was selected as the floor finish of choice for the project on account of the material's hygienic and anti-slip profile combined with its ability to turn the environment back round to the client under an extremely short turnaround time.

Flowfast Quartz - a decorative but durable resin flooring solution - combines colour stable quartz beads sealed within a clear acrylic resin binder. The system has been developed to meet fast installation times and can receive full traffic in just 90 minutes, reducing any disturbance to the catering centre's operations.

The product is ideal for commercial kitchen and food preparation environments, delivering excellent slip resistance - even when wet.

Flowfast Quartz was installed across the centre's kitchen, serving area, canteen and bathroom facilities. In addition, the material was also laid to coves providing a seamless transition between the floor and wall.
